YOGA PANTS - Premium Gourmet Guatemalan Coffee... (Women Owned)
Our YOGA PANTS Guatemalan we get from CAFE FEMENINO® - Nahuala - FTO - This coffee comes from farms that are owned and run by all women. (NOTE: We use this one exclusively for our YOGA PANTS Coffee). Many of the women act as the head of their household due to their husbands migrating to other areas in order to provide income for their families. They are responsible for taking care of their families and homes, the maintenance and upkeep of the animals and gardens on the farm, as well as the coffee growing and production.

With determination and desire for a better future, over 460 women coffee producers in Peru united to take a step toward achieving empowerment. This step came in the form of growing, harvesting and producing their own coffee called Café Femenino. Organic Products Trading Company (OPTCO) along with CECANOR Cooperative, PROASSA, CICAP and Cordaid joined forces to support the women in their efforts to achieve their goals. Together, the Café Femenino Coffee Project was founded in 2004.

Today, the Café Femenino Coffee Project is a social program for women coffee producers in rural communities around the world. More than 1,500 women in Bolivia, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico and Peru are active in the project to achieve empowerment, build social and support networks, and earn incomes through the production and sale of the Café Femenino Coffee. The success of the Project initiated the creation of The Café Femenino Foundation, which provides grants to select programs and projects that enhance the lives of women and their families in coffee growing communities around the world.

The other Guatemalan we use is the GUATEMALA FTO SMBC HUEHUETENANGO GUAYAB:  Their coffee is sourced from family-owned farms organized around Guaya’b Asociación Civil (GUAYA’B), an association of 640 members living in the municipalities of Jacaltenango, San Antonio Huista, and Unión Cantinil, within the department of Huehuetenango, Guatemala.  The farms have been certified organic and Bird-Friendly by the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center.  GUAYA’B provides members with access to micro-financing to ensure year-round farm maintenance and periodic renovations.  GUAYA’B also provides technical assistance, which includes soil analysis and training on organic fertilizer production.  Additionally, GUAYA’B has a centralized wet-mill equipped with environmental controls to return water to the environment free of contamination.

DEATH TO ZOMBIES - Premium Gourmet Honduras Coffee

16 years ago, 22 producers gathered under a fig tree to set up a new agricultural coffee growers’ co-operative, which is today known as Cooperativa Agrícola Cafetalera San Antonio Limitada (COAGRICSAL).

After years of hard work and professional experience in selling coffee through other second-tier organizations, COAGRICSAL has significantly grown until today, becoming the biggest first-tier organization for fair trade in Honduras. Its coffee exports go over 75 thousand hundredweights, and it has more than 700 members. Recently their products have been diversified by introducing a new product: fine cocoa. Today COAGRICSAL sells directly to customers and is backed by various labels: Símbolo de Pequeños Productores, Fairtrade, Orgánico, Rainforest Alliance, Café Practices y Utz, mostly exporting to Europe, United States and Canada.

More than 1,500 families benefit from COAGRICSAL’s activities: the co-operative offers direct and indirect employment and provides local community with services such as access to the streets, community centres, projects on access to water, school maintenance, police posts, reforestation and many others. Through education projects and scholarships for producers’ children the co-operative supports children and young students giving them the chance to finish their studies, from primary and secondary school to university.

The co-operative’s facilities have also grown considerably thanks to a solid experience which allows for the availability of services such as wet and dry coffee processing, manufacturing, tasting and transport. It also offers its members credit and saving services, as well as certification services.

On 6th November 2010 the organization was visited by about 45 people from different countries, who participated in the fourth CLAC assembly and also travelled to the very heart of Central America to get into the reality of life of small producers in Honduras. During their tour at COAGRICSAL, the participants could appreciate the different facilities to process one of the most sold products all over the world: coffee. They could also visit the cocoa nurseries and the plots of land sown with coffee.

COAGRICSAL is a member of the Latin American and Caribbean Network of Small Fairtrade Producers (CLAC) and Fairtrade International.
